Privacy policy

Our websites and use "cookies" only to facilitate navigation throughout the site. No personal information is gathered without first obtaining the user’s consent.

The information that is transmitted automatically between computers does not allow for personal identification of the user. The information is gathered to satisfy the technical requirements inherent to Internet navigation, and is used only for statistical purposes.

Once you access one of our websites, an exchange of information automatically takes place, with no intervention on your part, between your computer and the TEQ server. That information does not identify you personally. The following information is exchanged:

  • the Internet domain name (e.g. “” if you use a private Internet access account, or “” if you access the Internet through a university), and your IP address (an IP address is the number automatically assigned to your computer by your Internet provider every time you surf the Web) that you use to access our site
  • the type of browser and operating system used to access our site
  • the date and time you access our site
  • the pages you visit
  • if you reach by means of another site, the address of that website (referent site).

This exchange of information is required so that the server can transmit a file that is compatible with the computer equipment you use. The government keeps the requisite information in order to count the number of visitors and determine the most popular pages, the technology used by our clientele, the referencing sites and the user’s country of origin.

In accordance with the Loi sur l'accès aux documents des organismes publics et sur la protection des renseignements personnels, the ministry or organization requesting personal information from you must be sure of the necessity of gathering that information (Section 64), and must identify itself and properly inform you of the following (excerpt from Section 65):

  • the name and address of the government agency gathering the information
  • the use made of that information
  • the categories of people who will have access to the information
  • the mandatory or optional nature of the request
  • the consequences for the person concerned (or, as the case may be, for a third party) of a refusal to respond to the request
  • the right to access and rectification stipulated by law.

If you choose to give us personal information by e-mail or by filling out a form on our website, we will use only the information required to respond to your message and to provide follow-up. Electronic messages are treated with the same confidentiality measures that apply to regular mail.

The personal information transmitted is sent to another government agency only in cases where your request is addressed to that agency, or if the law requires such communication. The information transmitted is in no way used to draw up user profiles, nor is it sent to any private organizations.

Our site has links to other related sites. When you leave the TEQ website, the information exchanged is no longer subject to the TEQ privacy policy, but to the other site’s policy, if indeed it has one.
