Water heater conversion qualifies for assistance only if the home’s main heating system is also fossil fuel-powered and qualifies for assistance. In this case, the homeowner must remove the heating device, the water heater and the fuel tank in order to be eligible for the program.

In homes that are already heated by electricity, water heater conversion does not quality for financial assistance.

  • Is financial assistance paid under the Chauffez vert program treated as income for tax purposes?

If you are an individual who does not operate a company or property, you are not required to include the amount of the financial assistance in your income tax return.

In some cases, however, the financial assistance may reduce the cost of property, reduce your expenses or increase your income. We suggest that you check with an accountant.

After you have received the financial assistance, a statement 27, Government Payments, is produced. The statement 27 is a document that Transition énergétique Québec is required to provide. Its purpose is to encourage compliance with tax laws. The amounts entered on the statement are amounts received from a Québec Government department or agency during the year in question, but are not necessarily the amounts that you must declare for the year. You must include them when calculating your income or the income of the trust, partnership or corporation, as the case may be.
