Éconologis - A simple, free service to enhance the comfort of modest-income households

Dwelling units often become uncomfortable during the cold season. The Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles reminds Quebecers that simple energy efficiency measures could improve the situation. From October to March, the Éconologis program offers moderate-income households throughout Québec, whether homeowners or tenants, concrete, free assistance to enhance the energy efficiency and comfort of their homes. Some 2 940 households have benefited from the program since last October. There is still time to plan a meeting with an advisor by March 31, 2017.

Advisors visited participating households and provided tailor-made recommendations concerning heating, hot water consumption, household appliances and lighting. The households also took advantage of concrete measures such as caulking windows, the installation of sills and weather-stripping for doors, the insulation of electrical outlets located on exterior walls, the installation of a low-flow showerheads, and the addition of water tap aerators. Electronic thermostats were installed in the homes of eligible participants.

The measures ensure the occupants’ comfort for several years before they must be repeated. There is still time and it can still be profitable to participate in the program, even if the visit takes place in the second half of the winter. It should be noted that 95% of participants in the 2015-2016 season said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the program both from the standpoint of the advice received and the products installed. Act now!
