Feasibility studies and energy simulations for major industries

This program offers a grant to “major industry” Gaz Métro customers to conduct a feasibility study covering energy efficiency measures. Carried out by an engineering consulting firm accredited by Gaz Métro, a study such as this helps identify opportunities to improve the energy consumption of a building or process and suggests means of exploiting those opportunities. When the recommended measures are implemented, it is possible to substantially reduce energy consumption and related costs.

Implementation incentive for energy efficiency measures

This program offers a grant to encourage companies to implement energy efficiency measures to optimize the use of natural gas, reduce energy consumption and thereby cut energy costs (examples of measures that may be eligible for this program include addition of controls on ventilation or heating systems or on a process; heat recovery on a ventilation system, on combustion products from a furnace or boiler, or from drain water; optimization of a combustion system; insulation on the pipes of a hot water or steam network). The measures implemented must have been identified by a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

Infrared

This program offers a grant to encourage the acquisition and installation of an infrared heating system for heating purposes. Infrared technology operates on the principle of radiant heat, which heats objects and people rather than the ambient air. Infrared heating is ideal for buildings with large volumes of air and which are susceptible to significant air infiltration. The program is intended for both existing and new Gaz Métro customers.

Mid-efficiency boiler

This program offers a grant to encourage the acquisition and installation of a mid-efficiency boiler designed to allow for optimal heat exchange between combustion gases and the water or steam to be heated. It includes units with a capacity of at least 300,000 BTU/h, with an efficiency rating between 85% and 89% (excluding condensing units), which are used to heat premises or processes. The program is intended for existing buildings and new constructions, and may be of interest to both current and new customers.

New efficient construction

This program offers a grant to encourage the construction of an energy-efficient building that consumes less energy than standard reference buildings. This will result in reduced operating costs and increased resale value. The proposed projects can involve building a new construction, expanding an existing building or carrying out a major renovation project. The program also covers part of the cost of the energy simulation for the new building. It is intended for current Gaz Métro customers or soon to be customers.

Recommissioning

This program, also called RCx, offers a grant for the recommissioning of building mechanical systems. This recommissioning determines and addresses the causes of a building’s operating problems, whether with regard to control sequences, adjusting air intake rates, adapting the various systems’ hours of operation and adjusting the set points. This program is offered through a partnership between Gaz Métro and Transition énergétique Québec.

Solar air preheating system

This program offers a grant to encourage the purchase and installation of a solar air preheating system for space heating. By preheating the air supply to a ventilation system, significant savings can be achieved on the consumption of natural gas needed to heat the fresh air. Highly efficient, a solar air preheating system produces free and renewable energy and helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Variable speed hood

This program offers a grant to encourage the acquisition and installation of a variable-speed control system for commercial range hoods (restaurants, cafeterias, etc.). By using variable-speed fans, the system evacuates only the air volume required to remove kitchen fumes and grease. This prevents too much hot air from being removed and helps save energy since the amount of fresh air to be heated is also reduced. Energy consumption can be reduced by up to 35%. This program is intended for buildings that are equipped with a supply system of fresh air that is generated by a natural gas roof unit or by a natural gas make-up air unit.
